The Opportunity

The Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre (SMRCC) provides comprehensive cancer care to residents living in the Simcoe Muskoka region. We are seeking a dynamic individual as a locum (full-time) Radiation Oncologist.

The Position

The successful applicant will be a Radiation Oncologist who will join our SMRCP team of 10 Radiation Oncologists,  9 Medical Oncologists, 7 Hematology Oncologists/Hematologists, 3 Gynecologic Oncologists, and a comprehensive interdisciplinary group of cancer care professionals committed to delivering exceptional cancer care to the residents of Simcoe Muskoka.  The position is an 18 month 1.0 FTE locum position (July 2024 – December 2025). An interest  in genitourinary and gynecological malignancies is desirable and experience with both TRUS-fiducial and Hydrogel Spacer insertion as well as intracavitary brachytherapy is an asset but not required.  Deadline for expressions of interest is March 22nd, 2024. Start date is negotiable; mid July is the goal.

The Centre

The SMRCC is located within the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH). It has radiation treatment, systemic therapy, supportive care, surgical oncology, prevention, screening and clinical research programs for patients and their families living in Simcoe Muskoka.  The current population served exceeds 500,000 residents. The radiation treatment program is equipped with 1 Varian TrueBeam and 3 Varian Clinac iX linear accelerators each having VMAT, IGRT, stereotactic, and respiratory gating capabilities, as well as a Bravos HDR afterloader. A Canon CT Simulator with Varian’s Advanced RPM system provides both 3D and 4D treatment planning data. The paperless environment is supported by Varian’s ARIA Oncology Information System.

The Location

The SMRCC and RVH are located in Barrie, Ontario, the gateway to cottage country. Qualifications

  • Ontario Medical License and current certificate with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario
  • A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada with certification in Radiation Oncology or equivalent.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate teamwork, collaboration, and partnerships,
