POSITION TITLE:    Gynecologic Oncology Clinical Associate (CA)

 

DURATION:              Minimum commitment of one year

 

PROGRAM:               Cancer Program/Surgery Program

 

POSITION

LOCATION:              Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH)

                                         Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Program (SMRCP)

 

REPORTING TO:     Operations Director, Regional Cancer Program

 

HOURS OF WORK:  Thirty hours per week salaried, with opportunity for billing outside contract hours

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The CA will be based out of the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Program (SMRCP), a program of RVH. The CA will work closely with the Gynecologic Oncologists within agreed upon guidelines. The Clinical Associate will function as a vital part of the Gynecologic Oncology team and will provide care for both inpatient and outpatient Gynecologic Oncology patients.  S/he will provide direct care to patients and families within the cancer   program.  This will include technical and clinical skills, physical examination, interpretation of test results and ordering of tests and procedures.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Support:

  1. Conduct morning rounds on gynecologic oncology inpatients, and supervise their day to day care, alongside the Gynecologic Oncologist.
  2. Conduct well follow-up care for cancer patients in clinic
  3. Implement treatment plans for patients requiring routine systemic therapy in the Cancer Program at RVH under the supervision of a Gynecologic Oncologist
  4. Assist nurse navigators in fielding and triaging patient phone calls
  5. Assess patients in the emergency room or clinic who require urgent assessment
  6. Provision of pain and symptom management, as required
  7. Act as a resource to family physicians in the community
  8. Possible participation as surgical assist in the operating room; negotiable
  9. Attend weekly Multidisciplinary Cancer Gynecologic Oncology rounds

Professional Development Accountability:                                                                            

  1. Attend cancer related professional development activities and/or workshops as approved
  2. Follow policies and procedures in the provision of care of cancer patients as outlined by Cancer Care Ontario and the RVH
  3. Provide input into improvements in the delivery of patient care
  4. Participate in and support achievement of program goals and objectives

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. License to practice medicine in Ontario
  2. Minimum of two years of experience in an acute care facility
  3. Capable of working independently and able take direction appropriately
  4. Demonstrated positive relationship with other health care team professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  6. Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
  7. Proficient and appropriate use of diagnostic and procedural skills
  8. Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
  9. Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team
  10. Demonstrated ability to perform well in critical and high stress situations
  11. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning
  12. Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  13. Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills
  14. Responsible, energetic individual with an above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
  15. Willing to work flexible daytime hours

 

COMPENSATION:    Competitive salary, with opportunity to bill fee-for-service outside of the contract hours
