Critical Care/General Internal Medicine Physician


 The Departments of Critical Care and Medicine at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre are seeking an internist/intensivist to join our expanding programs. The position requires a commitment of 12 weeks as an intensivist and 12 weeks as a general internist. There will likely be an opportunity for more weeks within both programs.  Applicants must have their specialty license in Internal Medicine and have successfully completed an accredited Royal College Critical Care program and have either passed the exam or will be sitting the Critical Care specialty exam this fall. 


The Department of Critical Care manages a 15 bed medical-surgical unit supported with a highly skilled inter-professional team.  We have the capability to provide most aspects of organ support including dialysis and advanced respiratory failure management including prone ventilation.  The Department of Critical Care also provides a stand-alone critical care outreach team (CCOT) that is highly valued in our organization.  In addition, the intensivist covering the CCOT provides medical care for patients admitted to the six bed surgical step-down unit. 


            The Division of General Internal Medicine works in a hospital based model and provides services across ER, In-Patient MRP rounding, In-patient Consults, and Ambulatory GIM clinic. There are opportunities to participate in other clinics and Stroke care. There are no overheads. The GIM division is also supported by a Physician Assistant. The Department of Medicine also has extensive Subspecialty support including a closed CCU and a well-established GP Hospitalist program.


There are opportunities for teaching and research within the ICU and Medicine departments and the throughout the organization.
