A grey tsunami is expected to wash over Simcoe County in the coming years as aging family doctors exchange busy practices for retirement.

In Ontario, a family doctor, on average, has about 1,280 patients. In Barrie, that number sits at about 1,800, said Jaclyn Bell, physician recruitment co-ordinator for the Barrie and Area Physician Recruitment Task Force.

RVH and the Family Medicine Teaching Unit hosted 9 University of Toronto Medical Students for the week of June 10th – June 14th. The purpose was to give medical students exposure to RVH and what the Barrie Area has to offer.

The Family Medicine Teaching Unit of the University of Toronto and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre graduated 10 of their Family Medicine Residents. Seven of the ten residents will be practicing within the Barrie Area with 2 extending their education for 6 months in the RVH Emergency Department. Congratulations to all of the graduates and good luck with all of your future endeavors!
