The Barrie Area has a very predominant theatre, live music and performing arts community with world class facilities. These facilities are conveniently located in Barrie’s downtown core, the Barrie campus of Georgian College and throughout our area. The Barrie Area is also the home to an array of festivals and events during the course of the year. The Barrie Area has something to offer everyone to enjoy across our communities.

The Mady Centre

Barrie’s new Mady Centre For The Performing Arts is a world class facility conveniently located in Barrie’s downtown at the historic Five Points intersection, 1 Dunlop Street West and is managed by the Department of Culture.

This new state of the art theatre will be home to many professional and amateur cultural productions, film screenings, theatrical plays, concerts, dance recitals and other performances.

MacLaren Art Centre

The MacLaren Art Centre is the regional public art gallery serving the residents of the Barrie Area. The Gallery has a permanent collection of 26,600 works of art held in trust for the public and presents a year-round programme of world-class exhibitions, public art projects, education activities and special events.

The MacLaren is housed in an award-winning building in downtown Barrie. This architectural landmark combines a renovated Carnegie library with a contemporary addition designed by Siamak Hariri of Hariri Pontarini Architects. The complex includes multiple galleries, an education centre, a sculpture courtyard, café, gift shop and framing department.

Theatre by the Bay

Theatre by the Bay was founded by Larissa Mair and Nick Baillie, to bring professional calibre works of theatre to the City of Barrie. In 2002, Theatre by the Bay opened its doors inviting people from across Central Ontario induldge in class acts from around the country.

Huronia Symphony Orchestra

The Huronia Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1966 is a 55 member community orchestra bringing the excitement of a live orchestra to Barrie and Simcoe County, performing a wide variety of classics to current pop music.

The Colours of Music Festival

Colours of Music is a local festival that takes place every Fall to showcase wonderful music that is wonderfully performed. This festival will expose talent from across Canada as well as other parts of the world.

Barrie Concerts and Georgian Music

The Barrie Concerts began in November 1946. This November they will be celebrating 67 years. Georgian Music became a part of Barrie Concerts in 1990.

Both continue to contribute greatly to the quality of life for residents of the Barrie area. Both programs present outstanding performances. Both Barrie Concerts and Georgian Music have various venues in which their performances are held. The 2013-2014 schedule is posted on the website provided below.
