The Nuclear Medicine Program

The Nuclear Medicine service at RVH plays a critical role in supporting oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, orthopaedics, and emergency care across the region.

The successful candidate will work closely with oncology, internal medicine, surgery, and cardiology colleagues to provide timely, high-quality diagnostic and consultative services.

Scope of Practice

Clinical responsibilities include a broad range of nuclear medicine studies across modalities, including:

  • PET/CT imaging
  • Nuclear cardiology
  • General nuclear medicine imaging

The successful candidate must also be proficient in general radiology skills, including:

  • General radiography, ultrasound, CT, and MR
  • Experience with mammography and image guided breast procedure would also be considered an asset
  • Participation in diagnostic radiology call

Call Responsibilities

All members of the Department of Medical Imaging are expected to participate in the on-call rota, contributing to after-hours and weekend coverage in a fair and equitable manner alongside departmental colleagues

The Interventional Radiology Program

Scope of Practice

The successful candidate will join a team performing a broad range of advanced interventional procedures, including:

Vascular & Peripheral Arterial Disease

  • Peripheral arterial and vascular interventions
  • Diagnostic angiography and venography
  • Acute bleeding management (thoracic, abdominal, pelvic, upper and lower extremities, including traumatic bleeding)

Oncology Interventions

  • Treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma
  • Management of renal cell carcinoma
  • Ablation of osteoid osteoma
  • Uterine fibroid embolization

Dialysis & Venous Access

  • Hemodialysis interventions, including:
    • Blocked arterio-venous grafts and fistulae
    • Placement of hemodialysis catheters
  • Placement of:
    • PICC lines
    • Port-a-catheters
    • Tunnelled venous catheters

Other Advanced Interventions

  • Vertebral fracture management
  • Joint pain interventions
  • Nephrostomy and biliary drainage procedures
  • Image-guided biopsies
  • Management of obstructed kidneys and bile ducts
  • Varicocele embolization

This position offers the opportunity to maintain and expand a broad, high-acuity interventional radiology practice in a supportive regional referral centre.

Full-Time Hematopathologist or General Anatomical Pathologist with Hematopathology Fellowship

RVH is a 462-bed center, which includes the regionally designated cancer program for North Simcoe Muskoka, specializes in cancer care, surgical services, critical care, interventional cardiology, mental health, rehabilitation services and women’s and children’s programs. The Hudson Regional Cancer Program (HRCP) is also a designated Gynecologic oncology centre and Shared Care Leukemia site. The HRCP is expanding Complex Malignant Hematology services in partnership with OH-CCO with the goal of providing coordinated closest to home acute leukemia and select cell therapy services to adult patients. HRCP currently supports early transfer of Autologous Stem Cell transplant patients (Day 1 transfer program), AML consolidation treatment and less intensive therapy for AML in a shared care model with AML induction treatment to be offered in the near future. The RVH Laboratory is a regional referral centre for surgical pathology and microbiology to our network of 3 hospitals (Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Georgian Bay General Hospital and Collingwood General and Marine Hospital) and provides regional expertise and secondary distribution for blood transfusion products to all hospitals in the region.

As part of our team of twelve full-time pathologists you will provide diagnostic hematopathology and flow cytometry services in partnership with one other full-time FRCPC certified hematopathologist with part-time support from our general pathologists. The laboratory is fully accredited including IQMH and ISO 15189 Plus certification. Our caseload is challenging and diverse; enhanced by our involvement in the expanding services of the HRCC including gynecologic oncology and complex malignant hematology. The current annual workload includes approximately 600 bone marrow and 1000 flow cytometry examinations in addition to 30,000 surgical pathology and 5,000 cytology cases.

If you are a licensed pathologist in Ontario and have an FRCPC or equivalent qualification in hematopathology or general anatomical pathology with additional fellowship training in hematopathology this would be an ideal opportunity for you.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie, Ontario, is seeking a Plastic Surgeon with a strong interest in breast reconstruction to join a well-established, collegial plastic surgery group in a high-volume, community-based regional referral centre.

This opportunity is ideally suited for a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon with interest and/or formal fellowship training in breast reconstruction, including microsurgical breast reconstruction. The successful candidate will join a robust and established breast reconstruction program with a broad referral base, significant surgical volumes, and excellent institutional support.

RVH is a state-of-the-art facility offering a wide range of medical services with plans for expansion. The RVH Obstetrics and Gynecology program is a Level 2 NICU (30 weeks gestation and over) and manages over 2,000 deliveries per year.

The RVH Department of Obstetrics offers a dedicated Physician Assistant, available Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The Physician Assistants works collaboratively with the Obstetrician and the clinical team to round on postpartum patients, manage triage patients and assist with C-sections.

General Cardiologist

RVH in Barrie, Ontario, is seeking a General Cardiologist to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to practice in a busy, high acuity setting with access to excellent facilities and support. This position will begin as a Locum with an opportunity to transition to Associate Staff based on mutual interest and departmental needs.

Position Overview: We are looking for a general cardiologist; however, candidates with sub-specialty training in critical care cardiology, echocardiography, or other areas are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities Include:

  • CCU Coverage: Providing care for a 7-bed Coronary Care Unit (CCU) with access to inpatient echocardiography. Managing busy consult services including intubation/ventilation, IABP management, and dialysis support. Excellent support from ICU and nephrology teams.
  • Urgent Cardiac Care (UCC): Covering a busy chest pain clinic (M-F) with echocardiograms daily, stress tests daily, and pacemaker clinic supervision.
  • Shift Model: CCU call from Monday to Friday (24/7) with weekend handovers for Friday/Saturday/Sunday (24/7). Weekday UCC shifts run Monday to Friday.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Cardiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent).
  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Demonstrated experience in managing high-acuity cardiac patients.
